On Saturday, November 25th, a Blood Drive will be held at the nearby Garfield Shopping Center from 10 a.m. to 3:30p.m. The Bloodmobile will be parked near the Harvest International Market and Goodwill stores. There are two ways for folks to donate that day; donating blood and/or driving through to donate items at the Goodwill store.
We plan to have a Canyon View “hospitality” table near the Bloodmobile, offering maps showing how to find Canyon View and talking with interested folks. Canyon Villas plans to have a representative there, too.
In addition, if you are a blood donor, please consider signing up to donate that day. You can make an appointment on-line (mysdbb.org) or by calling 800-469-7322. Please pass along this information to anyone you know who is a regular blood donor.
On November 25, each blood donor will be given a voucher for a t-shirt in honor of the 1st annual “San Diego Cares” blood drive. This event will take place in December as a replacement for the Chargers Blood Drive that was held annually for over 35 years here in San Diego. If you have questions or comments, please contact Carol Simonson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 619-272-0300.
Canyon View has an ongoing “savings” account with the San Diego Blood Bank. If any member is a blood donor, that person can designate their donation as a “credit” into the Canyon View account. To make sure this happens, the donor needs to mention the account CVCH, each time when donating blood.
These credits will be available for members undergoing a medical procedure that requires blood products: whole blood, plasma, or platelets. Since our account has been dormant, it may take a few months to build up credits for members in need of this service.
The traditional school year will begin in late August for most students. Stores are already highlighting sales on back-to-school items. Backpacks and supplies will be collected at CanyonView beginning July 16th. Collection bins will be in the foyer and a list of suggested supplies will be available, If anyone would rather make a cash/check donation to buy backpacks/supplies, we will gladly do the shopping.
We have two goals. Backpacks with school supplies will again be distributed to students at Kit Carson Elementary School in Linda Vista and also to families with children in teh foster care system. This is just one of several opportunities to show the community we care. Please contact Carol Simonson, Patti Rolla, or JaNese if you have questions or comments about this outreach effort. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, and by preschoolers we mean kiddos from birth through kindergarten. MOPS exists for you. Being a mom is beautiful and hard, and we get that sometimes you just need a safe space to breathe. A place to get some encouragement that what you are doing matters and to be reminded that you are important. We are all in this together.
MOPS offers moms (and moms-to-be!) the opportunity to:
Make friends who relate to you and be a part of a Christian community. We like to call it our tribe of women who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood.
Receive hope-filled insight through group discussions and speakers who know we’ve only had three hours of uninterrupted sleep last night so they better keep it interesting!
Create, imagine, and actually finish a project! Who doesn’t love an occasional Pinterest-y project?
Find fulfillment in looking beyond ourselves with occasional service projects.
Have your kiddos be part of a Christian based preschool style experience that they will love going back to. Look, we all love our kids, but let’s be honest: a little break now and then makes us want to be with them even more.
