John joined our ministry staff in April, 2009. His education includes a master’s degree in Religion from Pepperdine University, a B.A. in Bible from Columbia Christian College , and a certificate from the Southern California School of Evangelism (SCSE). John was a professor of Bible at Korea Christian University in Seoul , an adjunct faculty member for Columbia Christian College in Portland and a Greek instructor for SCSE. In 1957, while John was in kindergarten, his family attended the Pacific Beach congregation. (The Clairemont church and Pacific Beach church united to form Canyon View in 1993.)

In 2005 John and his wife Jan sailed into San Diego Bay aboard Santa Teresa, their beloved sailboat, to change a clogged fuel filter before resuming their voyage south to distant ports. The fuel filter has long since been replaced but now, they joke, they are smitten with San Diego and firmly anchored to their new church family. John and Jan have four children, John Michael, Heather, Charlotte and Holly; one “Jama,” (Jan’s mom, Dixie), and two cats, Phoebe and Lucky.

John loves life and revels in God’s grace. “Join us in this great adventure!” he says. “We worship an awesome God.”
